Woorti App - Frequently Asked Questions

Having problems using the Woorti app? Scroll down our list of frequently asked questions to find your solution. If you need more help, please visit the Contact Us page on the Woorti app website and contact the relevant person for your country.

1. How do I record a trip?

Woorti should automatically detect that you have started a trip. A common reason that it might not however, is that you have activated your phone’s battery saver function. If the app does not detect you have started a trip, you can manually record a trip by pressing the ‘Start trip’ button on the ‘My Trips’ page of the app. Then, simply press the ‘End trip’ button once your trip is finished. Don’t forget to validate your recorded trips!

2. How do I validate a trip?

To validate a trip (and qualify for rewards/have your trip reflected in the Dashboard), navigate to the ‘My Trips’ page of the app and select the trip you wish to validate by pressing the red button next to it. Next, scroll through the page informing which modes of transport you took for each leg of your journey. If the mode detected is correct, press the ‘yes’ button. If it is incorrect, press the ‘No’ button and a pop-up box will appear asking you to choose which mode of transport you used. Once you’re satisfied, press the ‘Next’ button to proceed.

Now follow the instructions on the app (you may need to scroll up or down the page to find the next question) and fill out as much information as you can to earn more points! If a trip on the ‘My Trips’ page has a circular orange icon with a tick mark next to it, this means you have already successfully validated that trip. If you want to edit your report, navigate to the ‘My trips’ page and select the same trip again.

In order to send us data on your validated trips and thus have them reflected on your dashboard and counted towards your potential rewards. Without connecting your smart phone to the internet, we cannot know about your trips and your points might appear lower to us than on your smart phone. Please be aware that you must allow a short amount of time for your phone to send us your data, particularly if you have a slow or weak internet connection.

3. How do I delete a trip/trips?

To delete a trip, navigate to the ‘My Trips’ page of the app (accessible directly from the app menu) and select the greyed-out pencil icon in the top righthand corner of the screen. A pop-up box will appear with three options. Press the ‘Delete’ button, and then select which individual trips you want to delete, scrolling up or down as necessary. To permanently delete a trip, simply press the ‘Delete’ button at the bottom of the screen. All data on deleted trips will be removed and they will no longer appear on the ‘My trips’ page of the app.

4. How do I delete a leg/legs?

To delete a leg of a trip, navigate to the ‘My Trips’ page of the app (accessible directly from the app menu), then select the trip with the leg you wish to delete and press the icon on the righthand side of the trip that is either: red, round and has an ‘!’ (if you have yet to validate the trip), or is orange, round and has a check mark (if you have already validated the trip).

Next, select the greyed-out pencil icon on the top righthand corner of the screen. A pop-up box will appear with three options. Press the ‘Delete’ button, and then select which individual leg you want to delete, scrolling up or down as necessary. Orange, round check marks will appear to the right of trips you have selected. Please note that deleting a leg is only possible if there is more than one leg in the trip. Otherwise, you must delete the whole trip instead (see question 3). To permanently delete a leg simply press the ‘Delete’ button at the bottom of the screen, after which you will be asked to confirm. The trip that contained the leg will remain, but all data from the deleted legs of your trip will be removed from the app.

5. How do I merge trips?

You may merge several trips if you think the app has incorrectly recorded your journey as multiple individual trips rather than one. Merging changes all the selected trips into one. To merge multiple trips, navigate to the ‘My trips’ menu (accessible directly from the app menu) and select the greyed-out pencil icon on the top righthand corner of the screen. A pop-up box will appear with three options, select merge and follow the in-app instructions.

6. How do I merge the legs of my trip?

You may merge several legs of your trip if you think the app has incorrectly recorded your journey as multiple separate legs. Merging changes all the selected legs into one. To merge multiple legs, navigate to the ‘My trips’ menu (accessible directly from the app menu) and select the red icon to the right of the trip. Next, select the greyed-out pencil icon in the top righthand corner of the screen. A pop-up box will appear with three options, select merge and follow the in-app instructions, scrolling as necessary. You can then continue to validate the trip as normal.

7. How does MoTiV use my data?

Woorti is an app designed to help the MoTiV Project gather data for use in our research on how you value your travel time. To do this, we collect data about your journeys and ask you to fill in a questionnaire when you validate a trip, which provides us with additional information. This data in then processed to support our research. For more information, see the Woorti app privacy policy and the MoTiV privacy policy. For more information about our research, visit the relevant section of the MoTiV website.

8. Necessary battery settings

Woorti runs in the background of your smartphone to detect when you start and finish trips. Unfortunately, this interacts poorly with the battery saver modes of many smartphones, as these options disable the Woorti app to reduce battery consumption. Please disable these battery functions if you wish Woorti to be able to record the trips you make.

9. Battery consumption

The Woorti app runs in the background on your device in order to determine automatically if you start a trip. As a consequence, we have had reports that some users’ phones use significantly more battery than normal whilst having the application installed on their device. If this becomes an issue for you, it is possible to temporarily disable the application using the settings options on your smartphone. Just remember to reactivate the app next time you charge your device so that Woorti can start recording your trips again and you can start collecting points.

10. What is worthwhileness?

Worthwhileness is the value attributed to travel time and is different for every person. The MoTiV project is trying to investigate this in order to reach a more holistic understanding of this concept as opposed to traditional interpretations. For the purposes of our research, Worthwhileness is taken to be a function of three aspects: Productivity, Fitness and Enjoyment. More details on the subject can be found on the MoTiV website.

11. What is Productivity?

Productivity in the context of the MoTiV project is one of the three aspects that make up worthwhileness. Productivity applies to travel when you use your travel time to ‘get things done’, for work, to study, or for personal errands.

12. What is Fitness?

Fitness in the context of the MoTiV project is one of the three aspects that make up worthwhileness. You contribute to your fitness when you exercise whilst you travel, improving your health by keeping yourself in shape.

13. What is Enjoyment?

Enjoyment in the context of the MoTiV project is one of the three aspects that make up worthwhileness. You ‘enjoy’ yourself when traveling by relaxing or having fun whilst journeying; doing thing things like listening to music, using social media, or even just watching the world go by.

14. Who should I contact for more information?

To get in touch with the MoTiV team preferably send the relevant campaign manager for your country an email (see our contact us page), or send an email to: info@motivproject.eu

 15. General points to keep in mind (short answer)

      A. Focus on validating as many trips as you can. Ideally aim to validate trips covering at least 14 different days, but don’t worry if you forget, these days don’t need to be consecutive.

      B. Quality is important to us; one full and accurate report is worth a thousand inaccurate ones. Let us know as much as you can about what you did on your journey, and why things went well, or not!

      C. Combine these ideas to earn as many points as possible, the more trips you validate and the more detail you provide, the more points you earn and the better your chance to win a prize!

16. General points to keep in mind (long answer)

      A. Please validate as many trips as you can for as long as you can (there is no limit). Ideally, we aim for trips that cover at least 14 days, but if you forget, don’t worry, the days don’t need to be consecutive.

      B. What matters most is that when you validate a trip, you take the time to provide accurate data. Validating your trips is not about quantity, but about quality.

      C. Accurate data means ensuring the transport modes are corrected if they were not properly detected, and that trip legs on the same mode are merged into one if necessary.

      D. Accurate data means that you take the time to select a part of the trip that was relevant to you which you can give further feedback on.

      E. Ideally aim to validate trips covering at least 14 different days, but don’t worry if you forget, these days don’t need to be consecutive.

      F. You do not have to report every trip every day. You can just select those most relevant for you, or those most memorable. It may take you 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, or more to report enough trips. As long as the campaign does not finish, you can still become eligible.

      G. The longer you keep using the app and the more trips you validate, the more experience data you provide (activities or factors) and the more points you get. Points are weighted in during the final draw, giving you more chances to win!

17. Dashboard

The Dashboard located on your app menu offers you unique insights into the results of your travels based on several different metrics. You may select a timeframe for these measurements, starting from one day up to the entire year, by clicking on one of the choices available on the dropdown menu located at the top of your screen. Once you select your timeframe, Woorti will calculate your total accumulated travel time and distance measured in kilometers.

As you scroll down the Dashboard screen, you will find the total percentage of “worthwhileness” you have allocated to your trips, with a breakdown of their overall productivity, enjoyment, and contribution to your fitness. You will also be able to monitor the different ways in which you have used your total travel time. These results reflect either default scores or the scores you have logged for your trips, per mode of transport. You may always change the applicable scores in your settings on the main app menu.

Scroll further down on your screen and you will see the total of calories you have burned during your trips, as well as the percentage of your sustainable carbon footprint. Your carbon footprint is calculated from a “carbon budget”, which is the amount of CO2 that can be emitted per person for a sustainable lifestyle (500kg per person).
